Summer Reading
May 2011 Dear Parents and Guardians, The educators of Monroe Township Schools want to encourage their students to read during the summer. It is our philosophy that books belong not only in the classroom but also in the home. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers play an important role in supporting readers outside of school. Encouraging our students to read during the summer supports what they have learned and ensures that they are well prepared for the following school year. A district wide goal is for Monroe Township students to develop a lifelong love of reading. The following recommended titles are a starting point for students to choose books and authors that appeal to them. Many of the books can be checked out from the Monroe Township Public Library. This is only a suggested reading list. Students are encouraged to select their own reading materials that coincide with their personal interests. We also encourage the reading of magazines, newspapers, and graphic novels. These lists include books that can be used for shared or independent reading; both are excellent pathways to building literacy. It is our belief that reading provides a loving and safe way for your children to practice their developing literacy skills. Remember to visit the new Monroe Township Library to check out the books and activities. Have fun! Enjoy the summer READING! We wish you an exciting reading summer, The School Librarians and Reading Specialists of |
