|
What strategies, program and/or activities does the school improvement plan include to address each of the following areas:
Williamstown Middle School is currently in the fourth year of the Connected Mathematics program, which is a standards-based mathematics program. Connected Mathematics is a research-based program that has been rated as exemplary by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Partnered with our new math program the curriculum for the sixth, seventh and eighth grade has been rewritten to align with the newly revised New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Williamstown Middle School will continue its role as the LEA for MATRIX grant for year 3, which provides extensive professional development in the area of integrating technology into mathematics instruction. All math teachers in the middle school are participating in the MATRIX grant with a focus on problem-based learning. In addition, Williamstown Middle School will continue its work with the South Jersey Math Partnership consortium, which currently has selected middle school special education teachers to complete the newly developed math cog in Rowan University. In addition, through our PDD relationship with Rowan University we will continue to offer our math teaching staff on-going, quality, systemic professional development with Dr. Jill Perry. In addition, we have secured professional development with Dr. Robert Riehs of the NJDOE Office of Professional and Academic Standards to work with our middle school math teachers to identify the areas of academic weakness that must be addressed in our mathematics program. Williamstown Middle School will hold parent nights to encourage parent participation and understanding of standards-based Mathematics. Parent involvement will continue to be encouraged through the Parent Involvement program that offers training to parents In the area of literacy we have designated a team of five middle school teachers to participate in Rowan University’s Literacy Collaborative, which will provide the team with a variety of professional development opportunities designed to support literacy in a secondary school environment. The team is representative of all grades and the special needs department as well. In addition, we continue to provide our staff with professional development which supports strengthening literacy across the content areas with a continued focus on Writing to Learn, Writing Across the Curriculum and Using Primary Sources to Strengthen Literacy. |
