School Goals

2011-2012 SCHOOL GOALS

  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the Oak Knoll staff is committed to improving language arts literacy and writing skills by implementing a universal approach to the writing and reading processes.  Emphasis will be placed on literacy and exposing students to all types of genres.  In addition, students will be encouraged to write for many purposes, and to appreciate that a key purpose of writing is to communicate clearly.
  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, in order to provide each student with an optimum learning experience, teachers will take into consideration individual learning styles, and provide differentiated instruction to best meet the needs of ALL students.  The teachers will use available data from multiple sources (NJASK, MAP assessments, grades, etc.) to drive instruction.
  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the school community will enhance parent support which is critical to student success.  We invite parents/guardians and grandparents to participate in our parent volunteer program.  We will communicate regularly with parents, inviting them to participate in Site-Council meetings, and encouraging participation in each Oak Knoll-related activity.
  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, Oak Knoll community will build upon Character Education concepts to combat bullying behavior.  Through the Olweus Anti-Bullying Program, students, staff, and parents will gain a deeper understanding of bullying, identify it, take an active role to defend against it, and in general, take responsibility to reduce incidents of bullying, making Oak Knoll a “Bully Free Zone!”
  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, technology will be infused in all areas of the curriculum, exposing students to a multitude of technological approaches to learning using the technology literacy standards.
  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the Oak Knoll staff, in collaboration with the entire community, will focus on the “whole” child – developing 21st Century learners who take risks, collaborate, act ethically and responsibly, and develop pride in self and community.
