Supporting the Whole Student

The Monroe Township Public School District’s Child Study Team and Special Services Department works with students, families, and school staff to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students.

Our Approach

Individualized Support in the Least Restrictive Environment

The district is committed to developing each student’s unique strengths and needs through individualized, research-based support.

Rigorous Academic Programming (RAP)

Students receive rigorous academic programming within a supportive and nurturing environment, with continued access to Core Curriculum standards.

High Impact and Short Term (HIST)

When appropriate, interventions are designed to be high impact and short term while addressing each student’s identified educational needs.

Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)

The goal is to help students make meaningful academic progress while promoting success in the least restrictive environment.

Early Identification

Project Child Find

Concerned that a child may need additional educational support?

Project Child Find helps identify children who may have a disability and may be eligible for special education and related services.

Student Stability and Access

The McKinney-Vento Program

The McKinney-Vento Program is designed to minimize the impact of homelessness on children’s education. Some qualifying situations may not be obvious to families experiencing housing instability.

Qualifying Living Situations

A child may qualify when living:

  • In a shelter
  • With more than one family in a house or apartment
  • In a motel, car, or campsite

Educational Support

Children determined to be living in a homeless situation can:

  • Register without undue delay despite missing some otherwise required paperwork
  • Receive free breakfast and lunch
Early childhood classroom with learning centers, student materials, and child-sized furniture

Child Study Team

Collaborative Educational Planning and Support

The Child Study Team (CST) is a multidisciplinary team that works with students, families, and school staff to identify and address individual educational needs. The team may participate in evaluations, develop recommendations for educational programming and supports, and collaborate with families and educators to help students succeed.

Evaluation and Identification

Helps determine whether a student may have an educational disability and may be eligible for special education and related services.

Educational Planning

Works with families and educators to identify appropriate educational programming, supports, and services.

Student Support

Collaborates with school staff and families to address individual student needs and promote educational progress.

Family Partnership

Parents and guardians are an important part of the process and work alongside the school team to support their child.

Preschool and Early Intervention

Information and resources are available for families transitioning from early intervention into preschool services.
