New Jersey law provides for special education and related services, for children from birth through age twenty-one, who have identified a handicapping condition and/or a measurable developmental impairment. The law designates local boards of education, as responsible for identifying these children, and providing information regarding available services and programs offered by state, county, and local agencies.
Preschool children, who have reached the age of three, and meet the criteria, as established by the law and determined by the local Child Study Team through a testing process, are eligible for special education programs and related services through the local school district.
