What’s Been Keeping Whitehall Busy

A group of diverse children pose for a group photo on a sunny day outside a school building.

A Lot Can Happen in a Few Days at Whitehall! 🍦🦋

A monarch took flight from Whitehall’s Butterfly Garden, second graders tested candy in hot water, and fourth graders developed proposals of their own. In just a few days, students moved between science, civics, and hands-on discovery in ways that made each lesson something they could actually see, test, and take part in.

A collage shows children engaged in classroom activities, including working on crafts, holding a butterfly, and interacting with computers.

Mrs. Jones’ and Mrs. Smith’s third graders followed monarch caterpillars through their life cycle, learned about pollination, and eventually released the butterflies as they began their migration south toward Mexico. Miss Eshelman’s and Mrs. Lopez’s second graders used candy and hot water to make predictions and watch changes in matter happen right in front of them. In Mrs. Quinton’s fourth-grade class, students learned how a bill moves through the three branches of government, then put that process to work by developing proposals of their own.

There was plenty happening after the school day, too. Families returned for the Book Fair and evening social, 17 staff members came back as “celebrity scoopers,” and volunteers helped children shop for books while families pitched in with toppings and other support. A big thank you to everyone who donated their time and toppings!🍦

Whitehall also recognized its latest Positive Behavior Referral recipients and welcomed a new counselor to the building, bringing his experience over from Williamstown Middle School!

A science experiment at a table, a butterfly taking off in the garden, families coming back through the doors after hours, and staff making time to be there. Those are the moments that give a school year its shape, and they’re happening all across Monroe!
