Transportation

Our team works closely with school administrators, families, and the community to maintain high standards of safety, punctuality, and service. All drivers and staff are trained professionals who prioritize student well-being and follow strict safety protocols.

If at any time you need assistance, please contact the transportation department at 856-629-6400 or via email at Transportation@monroetwp.k12.nj.us.

Our hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30PM during the school year. Summer hours may vary.

Our mission is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for all eligible students. We are committed to ensuring that every student arrives at school and returns home safely each day.

The Transportation Department ensures safe and efficient student commutes by executing three core mandates:

  • Daily Transit: Operating morning and afternoon school transportation for all eligible students.
  • Route Management: Developing, optimizing, and maintaining all district bus routes and schedules.
  • Specialized Support: Accommodating students with unique or specialized transportation requirements.

New Jersey Statutes N.J.S.A. 18A:39-1 sets the guidelines for student transportation.

It states that elementary school students (grades K–8) who live beyond two miles from their school of attendance,  and secondary school students (grades 9–12) who live beyond 2.5 miles from their school of attendance, are entitled to transportation. The guideline further states that local boards of education may adopt lesser distances.

The Monroe Township Board of Education has established the following distances for students to be eligible for transportation:

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten: All students will be provided transportation.
  • Grades 1–4: Students must live more than 0.75 miles from school.
  • Grades 5–8: Students must live more than one mile from school.
  • Grades 9–12: Students must live more than 1.5 miles from school.

Note: Distance is measured from the curb in front of the student's residence, via the shortest route along public roadways or walkways, to the nearest public entrance of the school the student attends.

Student safety is our top priority.

We strongly encourage families to review bus safety rules with their children and report any concerns to our office.

  1. Upon boarding a bus, students shall immediately be seated with seatbelt fastened.

  2. Students shall remain seated & buckled until the bus has come to a complete stop at their destination.

  3. Students shall keep all parts of their bodies inside the bus at all times.

  4. Hazing of any kind shall not be permitted

  5. Unnecessary noise, shouting, or use of objectionable language shall not be permitted.

  6. Throwing objects within the bus or out of the bus windows shall not be permitted.

  7. Damage to buses by students shall not be tolerated.

  8. Gum chewing and eating are prohibited on the bus at all times.

  9. While waiting for the bus, students should line up and be well-behaved.  Students should not run in the street or on private property.

  10. Students may only ride their assigned bus unless they have advance permission from both parents in writing and receive a temporary bus pass from the transportation department or school, prior to the day of travel.
